Fans of the three Pirates of the Caribbean movies will also want to watch the 1952 classic The Crimson Pirate, starring the acrobatic duo Burt Lancaster and Nick Cravat.

This campy comedy adventure on the high seas is good for several laughs. This film abounds with gags, including flipping over a boat and walking under water, which obviously was one of several scenes that served as inspiration for the PotC movies.

I just saw the 1942 swashbuckling adventure "The Black Swan" featuring Tyrone Power and Maureen O'Hara.
What a great pirate movie!

Full of rascals, scoundrels, villains, and damsels, this film surely looks like it provided a large dose of inspiration for both Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean attraction as well as the movies.

Walt Disney Studios chairman Dick Cook confirmed that Johnny Depp will reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in a fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

I just bought all 3 Pirates of the Caribbean movies, and so far have only seen a few minutes of the first one on television, but I have all three of the films on DVD, now and plan on watching every single bit of material shown in the three films, as well as every single bit of the DVD bonus feaures. So this is awesome!

You know I purchased an Amazon Kindle recently. A few days ago, I downloaded the entire collection of Dr. Syn stories (by Russell Thorndyke) onto my Kindle. As opposed to the Disney mini-series, the Dr. Syn stories are full of nautical references, and Dr. Syn himself was captured by a pirate vessel. Syn defeated the pirate and took command of the ship. At one point in his pirate career, he took the name of Captain Clegg.

DreamWorks is reportedly working on a script for a film about Blackbeard. Pat Croce (Pirate Soul Museum) is collaborating on the screenplay.

AFI exhibit at DHS

I finally got my Black Pearl Gilcee. It is titled the Curse and it is by Collecotrs editions. Though ti is Disney, it was not in the Art of Disney stores.

Anyone here pick up the boxed set? A nice package if you hadn't bought any of the scores, but for those of us who have, one disc is not worth the price.
I'm somewhat spoiled by Shore's approach to the complete recordings of the LOTR. Just get it done and release all of the music from each film in one shot.
There's too much missing from the POTC scores, and this is the type of situation that causes folks to download music illegally.
I'm not exactly over...

A cursed question

We just recently got Curse of the Black Pearl in Blu-Ray, and were watching it last night. And it created a question for me.

Since Elizabeth took the Aztec coin from Will (who got it from his father) in the beginning of the movie, shouldn't she also be cursed?? The monkey was cursed and appeared as a skeleton in the moonlight. Did the monkey take the coin himself, or did he steal it from one of the pirates? If Jack the monkey stole it, then Elizabeth should also be cursed.

Here's an interesting article I found about Jim Byrkit, who I met last year at the Pirates event at WDW. It seems he's going to be directing a new pirate movie called Booty 3D. It's supposed to be a "family fun" movie done in 3D.
