What a great pirate movie!
Full of rascals, scoundrels, villains, and damsels, this film surely looks like it provided a large dose of inspiration for both Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean attraction as well as the movies.
Elizabeth Swann borrows traits from Maureen O'Hara's character, Jack Sparrow from Tyrone Power, Joshamee Gibbs from Tom Blue, and even Barbossa's character has traces of the villian, Captain Leech.
Although it lacks lavish sets, presumably because it was filmed during WWII, it makes up for this with sword fights, broadsides, and a good dose of humor.
The banter between Lady Margaret and Captain Waring invokes images of Captain Jack's salacious remarks to Elizabeth in the first two films.
If you haven't seen this classic, I recommend it. You may see the PotC attraction and rides in a different light.
